DMACC's Courtney Donahue named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Donahue allowed one run and struck out 16 batters in a 2-1 win over Southeastern CC

  • Donahue leads the ICCAC in wins, earned run average and strikeouts

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Courtney Donahue the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of March 18-24.

 

The honor is the fourth consecutive for Donahue, a sophomore from Marshfield, Wis., and she has been honored five times this season. Previous honors came the weeks of March 11 to 17, March 4 to 10, Feb. 26 to March 3 and Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Donahue is one of two members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Hilary Wilson, a freshman from Solon, was honored for her hitting the week of Feb. 12 to 18.

 

Donahue pitched just one game during the week, that a 2-1 win over Southeastern Community College (SECC) March 20 at West Burlington. She went all seven innings, allowing one run on two hits with 16 strikeouts and one walk. The win was her ninth against one loss.

 

Donahue has pitched 69 innings this season, allowing 11 runs, nine earned runs, on 24 hits. She has struck out 136 batters, walked 13 and is averaging 13.8 strikeouts per seven innings. She carries an 0.91 earned run average.

 

Donahue leads the ICCAC in wins, earned run average and strikeouts. She is ranked third in strikeouts and ninth in ERA in Division II of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

The DMACC softball team, 17-5, will play a doubleheader against Hawkeye Community College (HCC) today at Waterloo. The Bears will face Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) in a doubleheader March 30 at Fort Dodge. DMACC is ranked 12th in NJCAA Division II.
