The DMACC softball team ran its record to 10-4 after sweeping a doubleheader from Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) March 10 at Council Bluffs. Sophomore Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., tossed a three-hitter as the Bears won the opener, 2-1. And DMACC used an eight-run first inning to take the second game, 10-7.

The Bears ran their current winning streak to five games with the victories.

DMACC, ranked 12th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), trailed IWCC 1-0 after four innings in the first game and got the win behind runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Sophomore Elle Nelson of Grimes paced DMACC's five-hit attack with a pair of singles and Donahue, sophomore Kelsey Palmer of Cedar Rapids and freshman Kyleia Salyars of Muscatine had one hit apiece. Nelson and Donahue drove in the runs.

Donahue pitched all seven innings and improved to 5-1 with the win. She allowed one run on three hits, struck out 12 and walked one.

Freshman Breanna Caffery of Bettendorf had three hits, scored twice and drove in one run in DMACC's win in the second game. Palmer and freshmen Josie McCuddin of Truro and Mia Trewin of Waukee had two hits apiece and also drove in two runs apiece. Thirteen of the Bears' hits were singles with freshman Delaney Milanowski of Spring Green, Wis., accounting for the only extra-base hit with a double.

The Bears led 8-2 after the first inning and scored once in the second for a 9-2 lead. IWCC chipped away with single runs in the third and four innings to make it a 9-4 game. Both teams scored a run in the fifth and IWCC tallied its final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin improved to 3-0 with the win. She pitched the first three innings, allowing three runs on four hits and walking one batter. Sophomore Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines worked four innings, allowing four runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

The DMACC softball team will play six games in Kansas March 14 to 16. The Bears will play a doubleheader against Allen County Community College (ACCC) March 14 at Iola, Kan., and will meet Neosho County Community College (NCCC) in a doubleheader March 15 at Chanute, Kan. They will close out the trip with a doubleheader against Fort Scott Community College (FSCC) March 16 at Fort Scott, Kan.
