DMACC softball team drops doubleheader to NWMCC

 

The DMACC softball team lost a doubleheader to Northwest Mississippi. Community College (NWMCC) February 29 in the Bears' first outing on their Mississippi trip.

 

NWMCC took the opener, 3-0, and won the nightcap, 11-1, in five innings. The Rangers took the first game behind two runs in the third and one in the sixth. They scored all 11 of their runs in the first three innings in winning the second game.

 

Freshman Hilary Wilson of Solon paced DMACC's five-hit attack in the first game, collecting a pair of singles. Sophomores Campbell Kelley of Rock Island, Ill., Kelsey Palmer of Cedar Rapids and Keaton Frere of Andalusia, Ill., also had hits for the Bears.

 

Sophomore Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., suffered the loss after getting victories in her first two outings of the season. She allowed three runs on three hits, struck out eight and walked on.

 

DMACC also had five hits in the second game with freshman Kyleia Salyars of Muscatine getting a pair of doubles. Wilson and sophomores Elle Nelson of Grimes and Bella Nelson of Gilbert each singled. DMACC scored its only run in the top of the fourth with sophomore Hannah Ironside of Swisher getting the RBI on a sacrifice fly.

 

Sophomore Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin suffered the loss and fell to 2-1 for the season. She pitched the first inning and two-thirds, allowing eight runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Sophomore Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines went a third of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and freshman Maura Chalupa of Muscatine pitched one inning, giving up one run on one hit and walking one batter. Freshman Elle Flanagan of Coggon also pitched one inning and struck out one batter.

 

The DMACC softball team's road trip continues through March 3. The Bears will play East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) and Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) today and will face NWMCC and NEMCC on March 2. The trip will conclude with games against Itawamba Community College (ICC) and Jones College on March 3.
