The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC softball player Sydney Kennedy a Division II first team All-American.

 

Kennedy, a sophomore from Peosta, completed the 2022-23 spring season with a 27-4 record and a 1.95 earned run average. She struck out 257 batters and averaged 10.64 strikeouts per seven innings. Kennedy had 10 or more strikeouts in nine games during the season.

 

Kennedy was third in the Division II of the NJCAA in wins, fifth in games started (31) and was ranked among the top ten in strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings. She threw 15 complete games, shutting out five opponents.

 

Kennedy also had 20 assists in 31 chances and took part in one double play. She allowed only one stolen base during the season. One of her best games was a 17-strikeout performance in a 3-2 win against Neosho County (Kan.) Community College (NCCC) on March 15.

 

Kennedy led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in wins, earned run average and strikeouts. She pitched 169 innings, allowing 70 runs on 129 hits. Only 47 of the 70 runs allowed by Kennedy were earned and she walked 62 batters.

 

Kennedy also played a key role in DMACC's season with her performance at the plate. She hit .398 with a .438 on-base percentage and a .576 slugging percentage. Kennedy collected 76 hits in 191 at-bats and her hits included 16 doubles and six home runs. She drove in 56 runs and scored 33 runs.

 

The DMACC softball team finished the season with a 54-12 record. The Bears won their ninth consecutive Region 11 championship and made their ninth consecutive appearance in the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series, finishing third.
