DMACC's Sydney Kennedy named ICCAC Pitcher of the Week
  • Kennedy pitched a two-hit shutout in DMACC's 9-0 win over Central CC in the Northwest Plains District-B tournament
  • Kennedy struck out 10 batters and walked one
  • Kennedy improved to 22-4 for the season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Sydney Kennedy the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball (pitching) for the week of May 8 to 15.

 

This is the third time Kennedy has earned the honor. She also received it the week of April 10 to 16 and the week of March 27 to April 2.

 

Kennedy is one of six members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference during the spring season. Courtney Donahue, a freshman from Marshfield, Wis., was honored the week of May 1 to 7 for her pitching performances.

 

Other position players earning the honor are sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt, freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids.

 

Kearns and Clark have been honored three times, Kearns the weeks of May 8 to 14, May 1 to 7 and April 17 to 23 and Clark the weeks of April 24 to 30, April 10 to 16 and March 6 to 12. Kelley was honored the week of March 27 to April 2 and Snyder was honored the week of March 20 to 26.

 

Kenned, who was named the ICCAC Division II Pitcher of the Year earlier this week, pitched a two-hitter, struck out 10 and walked one in helping the Bears to a 9-0 win over Central (Neb.) Community College in the first game of a doubleheader May 12 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Northwest Plains-B District Tournament at Columbus, Neb. The Bears also won the second game to qualify for the 2023 NJCAA Division II World Series for the ninth consecutive year.

 

Kennedy's win improved her record to 22-4 for the season and she has a 2.13 earned run average. Kennedy leads the ICCAC in wins and is second in ERA. She has pitched 138 and a third innings, allowing 62 runs on 106 hits. Forty-two of the runs allowed by Kennedy were earned. Kennedy has struck out 223 batters and walked 51. She is second in the conference in strikeouts and is averaging 11.18 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

The DMACC softball team is 49-10 this season and is ranked 17th in the Division II poll from the NJCAA. The 2023 NJCAA Division II World Series will be played May 23 to 27 at Spartanburg, S.C.
