DMACC's Maddy Kearns named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball
  • Kearns batted .600 in helping the Bears defeat Central CC in the Northwest Plains-B District Tournament
  • Kearns' hits included a home run and she drove in three runs
  • Kearns is batting .468 with 21 doubles, nine home runs and 68 runs batted in

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Maddy Kearns the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of May 8 to 14.

 

The honor is the third of the spring season for Kearns and she is one of six members of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference during the season.

 

Two DMACC players, sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., have been honored for their pitching performances. Kennedy has earned the honor the week of May 8 to 15, April 10 to 16 and March 27 to April 2 and Donahue was honored the week of May 1 to 7.

 

Other DMACC players earning the honor are sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt, freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids. Clark has been honored three times, the week of April 24 to 30, the week of April 10 to 16 and the week of March to 6 to 12. Kelley was honored the week of March 27 to April 2 and Snyder was honored the week of March 20 to 26.

 

Kearns, a sophomore from Glenpool, Okla., was named to the ICCAC Region 11 first team earlier this week. She batted .600 with a home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored as the Bears swept a doubleheader from Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) May 12 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Northwest Plains-B District Tournament at Columbus, Neb. Kearns singled, drove in a run and scored two runs in a 9-0 win in the first game and in a 6-2 win in the second game, she had a single and a home run, drove in two runs and scored two runs.

 

Kearns is hitting .468 with a .505 on-base percentage and a .732 slugging percentage. She has a team-high 89 hits in 190 at-bats and her hits include 21 doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Kearns has driven in 68 runs and scored 75 runs. She is third in the ICCAC in RBIs and fourth in batting average.

 

In winning the NJCAA Northwest Plains-B District title, DMACC improved to 49-10 for the season and qualified for the NJCAA Division II World Series for the ninth consecutive season. The Bears are ranked 17th in the Division II poll from the NJCAA.
