Eleven DMACC softball players earn postseason honors

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has released the ICCAC Division II All-Region 11 teams and 11 members of the DMACC softball team have been recognized for their performances during the season.

 

Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta was named to the all-region first team and also earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Joining Kennedy on the first team are freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids, sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., and sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt.

 

Snyder and Kearns were named to infield positions and Clark was named to an outfield position.

 

DMACC softball players earning second-team honors are freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs, freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., sophomore Kaylynn Salyars of Muscatine, sophomore Emily Ades of Boone and freshman Kelsey Palmer of Cedar Rapids.

 

Kelley was named to a catching position, Donahue to a pitching position, Salyars to an infield position and Ades and Palmer to outfield positions.

 

Freshmen Ceara Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., and Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin received honorable mention recognition. Swanson was named to a catching position and Robertson to a pitching position.

 

Kennedy is 22-4 with a 2.13 earned run average. She leads the ICCAC in wins and is second in ERA. Kennedy has pitched 138 and a third innings, allowing 62 runs on 106 hits. Forty-two of the runs allowed by Kennedy are earned. Kennedy has struck out 223 batters and walked 51. She is second in the conference in strikeouts and is averaging 11.18 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Kennedy has also been one of the Bears top hitters with a .420 batting average, a .465 on-base percentage and a .621 slugging percentage. She has 71 hits in 169 at-bats, including 16 doubles and six home runs. Kennedy has driven in 52 runs and scored 33 runs.

 

Snyder is batting .446 with a .523 on-base percentage and a .881 slugging percentage. She is leading the Bears in RBIs with 70 and has 75 hits in 168 at-bats. Her hits include 26 doubles, four triples and 13 home runs. Snyder has also scored 58 runs. She is second in the ICCAC in RBIs.

 

Kearns is hitting .468 with a .505 on-base percentage and a .732 slugging percentage. She has a team-high 89 hits in 190 at-bats and her hits include 21 doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Kearns has driven in 68 runs and scored 75 runs. She is third in the ICCAC in RBIs and fourth in batting average.

 

Clark, who earned All-American honors in 2022, leads the Bears and the ICCAC in home runs with 19 and is third behind Snyder and Kearns in RBIs with 58. She has 56 hits in 139 at-bats for a .403 batting average. Clark also has a .585 on-base percentage and a .950 slugging percentage. Her hits include 113 doubles and three triples and she has scored a team-high 78 runs. Clark also leads DMACC in walks with 47.

 

Kelley is hitting .487 with a .604 on-base percentage and a .829 slugging percentage. She has 37 hits in 76 at-bats, including five doubles and seven home runs. Kelley has driven in 37 runs and scored 22 runs.

 

Donahue has put together a 16-1 record with one save and a 2.36 ERA. She has pitched 98 innings, allowing 44 runs on 84 hits. Thirty-three of the runs allowed by Donahue are earned. Donahue has struck out 126 batters, walked 33 and is averaging nine strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Salyars is batting .354 with a .423 on-base percentage and a .580 slugging percentage. She has 60 hits in 174 at-bats, including 12 doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Salyars has driven in 48 runs and scored 50 runs.

 

Ades has a .354 batting average with a .386 on-base percentage and a .508 slugging percentage. She has 69 hits in 195 at-bats and her hits include 16 doubles, one triple and four home runs. Ades has driven in 31 runs and scored 49 runs.

Palmer has a .424 batting average with a .473 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage. She has 50 hits in 118 at-bats, including three doubles. Palmer has driven in 25 runs and scored 36 runs.

 

Swanson is batting .279 with a .357 on-base percentage and a .590 slugging percentage. She has 17 hits in 61 at-bats, including five doubles, a triple and four home runs. Swanson has driven in 18 runs and scored nine runs.

 

Robertson is 9-4 this season with a 2.64 ERA. She has pitched 66 and a third innings, allowing 38 runs on 63 hits. Twenty-five of the 38 runs allowed by Robertson are earned. Roberson has struck out 55 batters, walked 27 and is averaging 5.80 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

The DMACC softball team is 49-10 this season and is ranked 17th in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears have qualified for the 2023 NJCAA Division II World Series May 23 to 27 at Spartanburg, S.C. Pairings for the tournament will be announced when they become available.
