DMACC's Maddy Kearns named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Kearns had five hits and drove in two runs in helping the Bears to the NJCAA Region 11-B championship
  • Kearns' five hits included two doubles and a home run
  • Kearns is batting .465 and leads the Bears in hits with 86

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Maddy Kearns the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of May 1 to 7.

 

This is the second time Kearns, a sophomore from Glenpool, Okla., has been honored by the conference. She was also honored the week of April 17 to 23 and she is one of six members of the DMACC softball team to have earned the honor this spring.

 

Sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt has been honored three times, the week of April 24 to 30, the week of April 10 to 16 and the week of March 6 to 12. Freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs was honored the week of March 27 to April 2 and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids was honored the week of March 20 to 26.

 

Two DMACC softball players have been honored for their pitching performances. Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta was honored the week of April 10 to 16 and the week of March 27 to April 2 and freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., was honored the week of May 1 to 7.

 

Kearns had five hits in nine at-bats and drove in two runs in helping DMACC to the championship of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 11-B Softball Tournament May 5 to 7 at Mason City. The title was the Bears' ninth straight regional championship. Kearns' five hits included two doubles and a home run. She also scored four runs and was walked once.

 

Kearns is batting .465 with a .502 on-base percentage and a .719 slugging percentage this season. She has 86 hits in 185 at-bats, including 21 doubles, a triple and eight home runs. Kearns has driven in 65 runs and scored 71 runs. Kearns leads the Bears in hits and is second in doubles, RBIs and runs scored.
