DMACC's Kendal Clark named NJCAA and ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball
  • Clark hit three home runs and drove in 13 runs during the week
  • Clark had an on-base percentage of .828 based on 10 hits and 10 walks
  • Clark leads the ICCAC in slugging percentage at 1.031

 

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) have named DMACC's Kendal Clark the Athlete of the Week for Division II softball. Clark was honored by the NJCAA for the week of April 26 to May 2 and she was honored by the conference for the week of April 24 to 30.

 

Clark, a sophomore from Humboldt, is the second member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the NCJAA this spring and she is the fifth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference. This marks the third time this spring that Clark has been honored by the conference. Other honors came the week of April 10 to 16 and the week of March 6 to 12.

 

DMACC freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids was honored by the NJCAA the week of March 22 to 28 and earned ICCAC honors the week of March 24 to 26. Sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., earned ICCAC honors the week of April 17 to 23 and freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs was honored the week of March 27 to April 2. Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta was honored for her pitching performances the week of April 10 to 16 and March 27 to April 2.

 

Clark, who was the ICCAC Player of the Year in 2022, had 10 hits, including three home runs, and drove in 13 runs as the Bears went 4-2 during the week. Her on-base percentage of .828 came courtesy of 10 hits and 10 walks and she posted an OPS (on-base and slugging percentage combined) of 2.161. Clark leads the ICCAC in slugging percentage (1.031) and is second in on-base percentage at .599.

 

Clark is hitting .411 this season with 53 hits in 129 at-bats. Her hits include 21 doubles, three triples and 17 home runs. She has scored 72 runs, driven in 55 runs and stolen nine bases in 10 attempts. Clark leads the Bears in home runs, runs, walks (41) and hit by pitch (20).

 

The DMACC softball team is 44-10 this season and is ranked 17th in this week's Division II poll from the NJCAA. The Bears are seeded third in the NJCAA Region 11-B Softball Tournament and will face fifth-seeded Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in a first-round game May 5 at Mason City. ILCC is 33-17. DMACC and ILCC split a four-game series this spring.

 

Second-seeded and 14th-ranked North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) and sixth-seeded Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) make up the other half of the bracket. The double-elimination tournament continues with semifinal games on May 6 and the championship game on May 7.
