The DMACC softball team improved to 41-9 by sweeping a doubleheader against Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SECC) April 26 at the DMACC softball diamond.

Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines combined on a two-hitter as the Bears took the opener, 11-1. Sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt and freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs homered in a 13-2 win in the second game. Both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The victories pushed DMACC's winning streak to eight consecutive games. The last six of those games were called after five innings because of the mercy rule and the Bears have outscored the opposition 69-18 in the eight wins.

DMACC, ranked 13th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first in the first game and scored five runs to take control. The Bears close it out with four runs in the second and two in the third.

Sophomores Kaylynn Salyars of Muscatine and Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., led DMACC in hitting with three singles apiece. Salyars drove in three runs and Kearns came away with two RBIs. Clark, Kelley and sophomore Emily Ades of Boone had two hits apiece and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids drove in a pair of runs.

Kennedy pitched the first four innings and ran her record to 20-3 with the win. She allowed one run on one hit and struck out nine. Foudree went one inning, giving up one hit and striking out three batters.

DMACC scored four runs in the first, five in the second and four in the fourth in winning the second game. Clark and Kelley each had two singles to go with their home runs and Snyder hit a pair of doubles. Kennedy also had two hits, including a double. Kelley finished with five RBIs and Clark drove in three runs.

Freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., pitched three innings and notched her 11th win against one loss. She allowed one run on three hits, struck out two and walked one. Freshman Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin allowed one run on four hits in two innings in the circle.

The DMACC softball team will close out the regular season with a pair of doubleheaders against Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) April 29 and 30 at the DMACC softball diamond. DMACC is 14-6 in the ICCAC and is third behind Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). KCC is 18-2 in conference play and NIACC is 17-3. ICCC is fourth with an 11-9 record. The Tritons are 26-21-1 overall.
