DMACC's Maddy Kearns named ICCAC Athlete of the Week
  • Kearns batted .500 as the Bears went 4-2 during the week
  • Kearns' hits included three doubles and two home runs
  • Kearns drove in eight runs during the week

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Maddy Kearns the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Softball for the week of April 17 to 23.

 

Kearns, a sophomore from Glenpool, Okla., is the fifth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Two players, sophomores Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and Kendal Clark of Humboldt, have been honored twice, Kennedy the weeks of April 10 to 16 and March 27 to April 2 and Clark the weeks of April 10 to 16 and March 6 to 12. Freshman Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs was honored the week of March 27 to April 2 and freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids was honored the week of March 20 to 26.

 

Kearns helped the Bears to a 4-2 record during the week. She had two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs in a 5-4 loss to Kirkwood Community College (KCC) in the first game of a doubleheader on April 17 and was held hitless in a 10-1 KCC win in the second game.

 

Kearns went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs in a 7-4 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) in the first game of a doubleheader on April 18 and went 2-for-4 with double, a run scored and two RBIs in a 6-4 win in the second game.

 

Kearns went hitless but scored two runs as DMACC defeated Ellsworth Community College (ECC), 13-1, in the first game of a doubleheader on April 23 and then had three hits, including a double and two home runs, in a 13-0 win in the second game. Kearns drove in four runs and scored twice in the game.

 

Kearns is batting .474 with a .737 slugging percentage and a .506 on-base percentage this season. She has 74 hits in 156 at-bats, including 18 doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Kearns has scored 59 runs and driven in 57 runs. She is second in the conference in hitting, sixth in doubles and eighth in total bases with 115.

 

The DMACC softball team, ranked 13th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 39-9 overall and 14-6 in the ICCAC. The Bears face Southeast (Neb.) Community College (SECC) in a doubleheader today at the DMACC softball team.
