DMACC softball team takes two more games from Ellsworth

The DMACC softball team completed a four-game sweep of Ellsworth Community College (ECC) by winning both games of a doubleheader April 24 at the DMACC softball diamond. The wins come on the heels of a pair of wins on April 23.

The Bears, ranked 13th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), won by scores of 18-4 and 12-1 to push their current winning streak to six games. They are 39-9 overall and 14-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

DMACC outscored the Panthers 56-6 in the four games and all four were called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Sophomore Kaylynn Salyars of Muscatine homered and drove in four runs in DMACC's win in the opener. Freshman Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids homered, doubled and drove in two runs and sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., came away with three RBIs.

The Bears led 11-1 after the first inning and put the game out of reach with three runs in the second and four runs in the third. ECC tallied two runs in the top of the second and one run in the top of the fifth.

Sophomore Emily Ades of Boone also had two hits in the game and joined sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and Maia Abrahamson of Van Meter with two RBIs.

Kennedy pitched the first three innings and improved to 19-3 with the win. She allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two batters. Freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines went two innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two.

Kennedy, Snyder and freshman Grace Bailey of Hamilton drove in two runs apiece in the Bears' win in the second game. They scored five runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth.

Freshman Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin ran her record to 8-4 behind a two-hitter. She pitched four innings, allowing one run, striking out three and walking three. Freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., went one inning. She allowed three hits and struck out two batters.
