DMACC softball team takes doubleheader from Ellsworth

 

The DMACC softball team improved to 37-9 overall and 12-6 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) by sweeping a doubleheader from Ellsworth Community College (ECC) April 23 at the DMACC softball team.

 

The Bears won by scores of 13-1 and 13-0 and both games were called after five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

 

Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta and freshmen Bailey Donohoe of West Branch, Madisyn Kelley of Nora Springs and Amaya Snyder of Cedar Rapids drove in two runs apiece to lead the Bears to their win in the opener. Sophomore Maddy Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., and freshman Grace Bailey of Hamilton drove in four runs apiece and Snyder came away with three RBIs in DMACC's win in the second game.

 

Donohoe belted a home run, freshman Ceara Swanson of Lincoln, Neb., tripled and sophomore Kendal Clark of Humboldt and Snyder each doubled in DMACC's opening-game win. The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the first, made it a 9-0 game with six runs in the second and closed out the win with a run in the third and three in the fourth.

 

Kelley and Swanson paced DMACC's 10-hit attack with two hits apiece.

 

Kennedy pitched the first four innings and improved to 18-3 with the win. She allowed one run on three hits and struck out six. Freshman Kinsley Robertson of Tiffin went one inning and struck out one batter.

 

Kearns hit two home runs and Clark and Bailey each homered in the Bears' win in the second game. DMACC took a 5-0 lead in the first inning, scored six times in the second and put the game away with single runs in the third and fourth innings.

 

Kearns led the Bears' 12-hit attack with three hits, including a double to go with her two home runs. Kelley, Snyder and freshman Kelsey Palmer of Cedar Rapids had two hits apiece, including a triple and a double from Snyder and a double by Palmer. Donohoe also doubled in the win.

 

Freshman Courtney Donahue of Marshfield, Wis., improved to 10-1 with the win. She went four innings, allowing one hit, striking out five and walking one. Freshman Lauryn Foudree of West Des Moines pitched one inning, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.

 

The two teams will play another doubleheader today at the DMACC softball diamond. ECC comes in at 4-28 overall and 1-17 in the ICCAC.
