The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has honored four members of the DMACC softball team and the DMACC softball coaching staff.

 

Players honored are freshmen Emma Dighton of Boone and Kendal Clark of Humboldt and sophomores Abby Husak of Polk City and Sami Miller of Mason City. Dighton and Clark garnered National junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Second-Team All-American honors and were named to the All-Midwest Region First Team along with Husak and Miller.

 

The DMACC softball coaching staff named NFCA NJCAA Division II Coaching Staff of the Year.

 

Dighton finished the 2022 season with a .459 batting average behind 79 hits in 172 at-bats. She had a .537 on-base percentage and a 1.064 slugging percentage. Dighton's 79 hits included 18 doubles, a triple and 28 home runs. She drove in 94 runs and scored 78 runs. Dighton led NJCAA Division II in home runs and finished second to Clark in runs batted in.

 

Dighton also pitched for the Bears, compiling a 14-2 record with one save, one complete game and a 3.57 earned run average. She threw 82 and a third innings, allowing 51 runs on 90 hits. Forty-two of the 51 runs allowed by Dighton were earned. She struck out 71 batters, walked 17 and averaged 6.04 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Clark hit .559 for the Bears with a .633 on-base percentage and a 1.211 slugging percentage. She had 90 hits in 161 at-bats, including 20 doubles, two triples and 27 home runs. Clark drove in a 101 runs and scored 78 runs. Clark's 101 RBIs led all of NJCAA Division II and she was second to Dighton in home runs.

 

Husak batted .497 with a .587 on-base percentage and a .515 slugging percentage. She had 84 hits in 169 at-bats, including three doubles. Husak drove in 19 runs and scored a team-high 89 runs. She also led the Bears in stolen bases with 33 in 37 attempts.

 

Miller finished the 2022 season with a .463 batting average, a .521 on-base percentage and a .848 slugging percentage. She had 76 hits in 164 at-bats. Her 76 hits included 18 doubles, three triples and 13 home runs. Miller drove in 68 runs and scored 55 runs.

 

The DMACC coaching staff includes head coach Bob Ligouri and assistants Thana Heller, Jodi Doty, John Wilkinson and Bailey Richards. They led the Bears to a 52-5 record and a fifth-place finish in the NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship. DMACC also captured its fifth consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season title and the NJCAA North Plains A District championship. The North Plains A District championship gave the Bears their eighth consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
