DMACC's Sydney Kennedy named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball
  • Kennedy earned two victories in five appearances in the circle
  • Kennedy allowed just two runs in 12 and a third innings
  • Kennedy is 5-0 with six saves this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Sydney Kennedy the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II softball (pitching) for the week of April 4 to 10.

 

Kennedy, a freshman from Peosta, is the fifth member of the DMACC softball team to be honored by the conference this season. Freshman Emma Dighton has been honored the weeks of April 4 to 10 and March 21 to 27. Freshman Madison Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., was honored the weeks of March 7 to 13 and Feb. 14 to 20 and sophomore Abby Flanagan of Coggon was honored for her pitching performance the week of Feb. 14 to 20. Sophomore Lexi Lander of Onawa was honored for her pitching the week of March 14 to 20.

 

Kennedy's week included a pair of victories in 12 and a third innings in the circle as the Bears won all eight of their scheduled games. She allowed just two hits and struck out 17 batters.

 

Kennedy also helped DMACC at the plate, collecting 18 hits in 28 at-bats for a .643 average. She hit four doubles, a triple, two home runs, drove in 19 runs and scored 19 runs.

 

Kennedy is 5-0 with six saves and a 2.03 earned run average. Her six saves leads the ICCAC. Kennedy has pitched 48 and a third innings, allowing 18 runs on 34 hits. Fourteen of the 18 runs she has allowed are earned. Kennedy has struck out 64 batters and walked 12. She is averaging 9.27 strikeouts per seven innings.

 

Kennedy is hitting .490 with a .519 on-base percentage and a .878 slugging percentage. She has 18 hits in 52 at-bats, including five doubles, a triple and four home runs. She has driven in 26 runs and scored 22 runs.

 

The DMACC softball team, ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, is hosting Marshalltown Community College (MCC) in a doubleheader today at the DMACC softball diamond. The Bears are 34-3 overall, 14-2 in the ICCAC and are riding a 13-game winning streak. MCC, an NJCAA Division I program, is 7-21 overall and1-9 in the ICCAC.
