DMACC softball team sweeps doubleheader from Neosho County

The DMACC softball team stayed unbeaten for the 2022 season with a doubleheader sweep of Neosho County Community College (NCCC) March 13 at Chanute, Kan.

 

The Bears, ranked third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, won both games by identical 6-2 scores to improve to 13-0 for the season. Freshman Madison Kearns of Glenpool, Okla., homered and drove in two runs in each game, bringing her season totals to five home runs and 21 runs batted in.

 

Freshman Emma Dighton of Boone and sophomore Lexi Lander of Onawa earned the victories and each improve to 3-0 for the season.

 

Sophomore Abby Husak of Polk City had a pair of singles and freshmen Kendal Clark of Humboldt and Zoey Hightshoe of Boone each doubled for DMACC in the opener. The Bears led 2-1 after the first inning and closed out the win with three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. NCCC tallied its other run in the bottom of the fifth.

 

Dighton went the first four and a third innings, allowing two runs on seven hits. She struck out three and walked one. Sophomore Sydney Kennedy of Peosta went two and two-thirds innings and struck out two batters.

 

Kearns and Husak had two hits apiece in the second game. Kearns had a double to go with her home run and Husak hit a pair of singles. Dighton also doubled in the win. The Bears had a 1-0 lead after the first inning, a 2-0 advantage after three innings and a 3-1 lead after six innings. They closed out the win with three runs in the seventh and NCCC added its other run in the bottom of the inning.

 

Lander went five and a third innings, allowing one run on five hits. She struck out four and walked one. Kennedy recorded her fifth save on the season, throwing an inning and two-thirds. She allowed one run on three hits, struck out two and walked one.

 

The DMACC softball team will face Grayson College (GC) in a doubleheader today.
