DMACC men's cross country team wins Region 11 championship

Freshman Eli Page of Vinton took medalist honors and the DMACC men's cross country team swept the first seven places as the Bears won their first-ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 2 Region 11 championship Oct. 25 at Ottumwa.

 

Page ran the 8K course in 25 minutes, 13 seconds as the Bears scored 15 points and finished 49 points ahead of runner-up Southeastern Community College (SECC).

 

DMACC got a second-place finish from freshman Caden Brown of Muscatine and sophomore Will Thompson of Clive, sophomore Jordan King of Ogden, sophomore Jack Hitchcock of Johnston, freshman Zach Stoermer of Des Moines and sophomore Owen Almelien of Greene were third through seventh respectively.

 

Brown and Thompson finished a second behind Page at 25:14, King crossed the finish line in 25:36, Hitchcock's time was 25:54, Stoermer posted a time of 25:56 and Almelien finished in 26:04.

 

The DMACC men's cross country team will run in the NJCAA Division 2 Championship Nov. 9 at Richmond, Va.
