The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the Nationa Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) has named DMACC's Pat Heffernan the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for men's cross country for the week of September 9 to 15.
Heffernan, a sophomore from Dunlap, is being honored for the first time this season and he is the second member of the DMACC men's cross country team to be honored by the conference. Freshman Eli Page of Vinton was honored for the time period of Aug. 22 to Sept. 1.
Heffernan finished second overall and first among community college teams in leading the DMACC men's cross country team to a second-place finish in the Trent Smith Invitational Sept. 13 at Mason City.
Heffernan toured the 8K course in 26 minutes, 27 seconds, averaging 5.19 minutes per mile. He edged Ahmed Aldamak of Wartburg College (WC) by 0.7 seconds to claim second place ahead of 48 other runners.
WC took the team championship with 26 points and DMACC scored 34 points in finishing second.
Adrian Welton, running unattached, was the overall winner with a time of 26:22.
The DMACC men's cross country team will run in the Grand View Invitational Sept. 21 at Ankeny.
