DMACC men's cross country team is second in Trent Smith Invitational

 

The DMACC men's cross country team competed in the Trent Smith Invitational September 15 at Mason City and came home with a second-place finish.

 

The Bears got a fifth-place finish from freshman Zachary Niederklopfer of Des Moines as they scored 42 points and finished 13 points Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), which scored 29 points. ICCC's Jadon Boots took the individual competition with a time of 26 minutes, 9 seconds over the 8K course.

 

Niederklopfer toured the course in 27:11. He was followed across the finish line by teammates Jordan King, a freshman from Boone, and Alejandro Bernal, a freshman from Sibley. King was timed in 27:23 in finishing sixth and Bernal's seventh-place finish came in 27:24.

 

Three other DMACC runners placed in the top 20. Joe Terrones, a freshman from Marshalltown, placed 11th in 27:41, Will Thompson, a freshman from West Des Moines, was 13th in 28:00 and Ray Gearhart, a freshman from Oelwein, was 15th with a time of 28:43.

 

Other DMACC results saw freshman Grant Harrison of Des Moines finish in 23rd place, Jesse Washington, a freshman from Parkersburg finished 29th and Richard Tingue of Leoganne, Haiti, was 31st. Harrison posted a time of 29:41, Washington crossed the finish line in 30:30 and Tingue turned in a time of 30:49.

The DMACC men's cross country team will run in the Grand View Invitational Sept. 23 at Ankeny.
