The DMACC men's track and field team began the 2025 spring season with its participation in a pair of meets on January 17. Most members of the team competed in the Jack Jennett Invite at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls and two team members ran in the Bill Bergan Open at the Iowa State Recreation Center in Ames.
DMACC's best results came in the UNI event where sophomores Owen Almelien of Greene and Hunter Landphair of Adel came away with victories. Almelien won the mile run with a time of 4:33.86 and Landphair took the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:11.77.
Landphair and three other DMACC runners joined Almelien in the mile. Freshman Daniel Schoening of Ankeny was third in 4:40.98 and sophomore Pat Heffernan of Dunlap finished fifth in 4:47.89. Landphair took sixth place with a time of 4:57.16 and sophomore Eli Bergman of Hoffman, Minn., was seventh in 5:01.55.
Joining Landphair in the 800 were Almelien and Bergman. They placed second and third respectively with Almelien crossing the finish line in 2:15.19 and Bergman turning in a time of 2:17.50.
Freshman Elijah Blix of Vinton competed in the 3000-meter run and finished second with a time of 9:36.96.
Two members of the DMACC men's track and field team ran in the 800-meter run at the Bill Bergan Open. Freshman Eli Page of Vinton finished sixth in 1:57.45 and freshman Zach Stoermer of Des Moines was seventh with a time of 1:58.22.
The DMACC men's track and field team will run in the Cyclone Open Jan. 24 at Ames.
