DMACC men's golf team finishes ninth in NJCAA Fall Preview

 

A pair of freshmen led the way as the DMACC men's golf team finished ninth in the 2024 NJCAA National Championship Fall Preview Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

 

Freshman Luke Linde of Winterset shot a one-over-par 73 and freshman Zach Wilson of Ames shot a 79 as the Bears posted a 309 in the tournament's second round and finished the 36-hole event in ninth place with 615 strokes. Linde tied for 19th in the individual competition with a 36-hole score of 148, four over par. Wilson tied for 38th place in a two-day total of 153.

 

Parkland College (PC) captured the team championship with 582 strokes, four strokes better than runner-up Murray State Community College (MSCC).

 

Top individual honors went to MSCC's Jeremy Godin with a 36-hole score of 140 on rounds of 69 and 71.

 

Other DMACC results saw sophomore Caleb Ham of Hudson tie for 43rd place. Sophomore Lari Hakanen of Kerava, Finland, finished in 70th place and freshman Ryan Schmierer of North Liberty finished in 90th place. Ham posted a 79 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 154. Hakanen shot a 78 in the second round for a 36-hole score of 160 and Schmierer finished the two-day tournament at 171 after shooting an 81 in the second round.

DMACC freshman Ethan Nace of Iowa City competed as an individual and tied for 82nd place. His second-round 84 gave him a 36-hole score of 165.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Quad Cup Oct. 11 at a site to be determined.
