DMACC men's golf team finishes third in national championship

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a third-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Championship May 21 to 24 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Mo.

 

The Bears posted a 72-hole score of 1,178 strokes, finishing five strokes behind runner-up Kirkwood Community College (KCC) and eight strokes back of tournament champion Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC).

 

DMACC went into the final round trailing MGCCC by three shots and leading KCC by six shots. The Bears posted a final round 298 while KCC shot 287 and MGCCC turned in a 293. DMACC's final round was its second worst of the tournament. The Bears opened with a 304 and then shot a one-under-par 287 in the second round and a one-over-par 289 in the third round.

 

DMACC's finish was its highest in recent history. The Bears have qualified for the tournament five times since 2017 and their previous best finish was seventh in 2021.

 

Sophomore Calvin McNeeley of Pleasant Hill and freshman Drew Teeter of Albert Lea, Minn., led DMACC individually with a tie for sixth place. Both finished at five-over-par 293. McNeeley shot a 76 in his final round and Teeter posted a 74.

 

Other DMACC results saw sophomore Spencer Clatt of Gilbert finish in 15th place and sophomore Kaleb Allen of West Burlington tied for 32nd. Clatt turned in a final round 73 for a 72-hole score of 297 and Allen finished at 303 after a final-round 75.

 

DMACC freshmen Caleb Ham of Hudson and Lari Hakanen of Kerava, Finland, also completed in the tournament. Ham played one-round, turning in a six-over-par 78, and Hakanen played three rounds, shooting scores of 80, 71 and 79.

 

The tournament closed out the spring season for the DMACC men's golf team.
