The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Sam Vertanen the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Men's Golf for the week of March 6 to 12.
Vertanen, a sophomore from Ames, is the first member of the DMACC men's golf team to be honored by the conference this spring. He earned the honor following a seventh-place finish in the Columbia College Invitational March 6 in Columbia, Mo.
Vertanen, who is coming off a 12th-place finish in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Fall Preview last October, posted a three-over-par 74 in the tournament and helped the DMACC men's golf team to a third-place finish in the team competition.
The DMACC men's golf team will play in the Cougar Spring Preview March 28 and 29 at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, Ill.
