The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Da'Shon Fisher the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 24 to March 2.
Fisher, a sophomore from Iowa City, is being honored by the conference for the fifth time this season and he is one of five members of the DMACC men 's basketball team to be honored this season. He was also honored the weeks of Feb. 17 to 23, Feb. 3 to 9, Jan. 13 to 19 and Nov. 25 to Dec. 1.
DMACC sophomore Trevian Carson has been honored four times, the weeks of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, Jan. 20 to 26, Nov. 11 to 17 and Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.
DMACC freshmen Jaden Jefferson of Forney, Texas, Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids and Dylan Omweno of Apple Valley, Minn., have also been honored by the ICCAC, Jefferson the week of Feb. 10 to 16, Austin the week of Jan. 6 to 12 and Omweno the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.
Fisher scored 50 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had two assists, two steals and two blocked shots in leading the Bears to two wins during the week. He scored 21 points with six rebounds and an assists as the Bears clinched their second consecutive ICCAC regular season championship with an 86-60 win over Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Feb. 26 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Fisher came away with 29 points, four rebounds, an assist, two steals and two blocked shots in DMACC's 95-75 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) March 1 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The win came in the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Region 11 Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
Fisher made nine of 15 field goal attempts, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, in the win over KCC and was 8-of-14 from the field in the win over NECC. He drained three of five three-point attempts in that game and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line.
Fisher leads the Bears in scoring with 509 points and a 16.4 average. He is shooting 47 percent from the field with 199 field goals in 347 attempts and has made 25 of 79 three-point attempts for 32 percent. Fisher is 86-of-120 from the free throw line for 72 percent.
Fisher has 147 rebounds, including 110 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.7 rebounds a game. His season also includes 45 assists, 49 steals and 21 blocked shots.
The DMACC men's basketball team, 29-2 with a 17-game winning streak, is ranked third in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Bears will play Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) at 7 p.m. tonight inside the DMACC gymnasium in the semifinals of the Region 11 tournament. DMACC, seeded first, defeated the four-seeded Tritons twice during the regular season, 70-57 Dec. 18 at Fort Dodge and 79-62 Feb. 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
The DMACC-ICCC winner will advance to the Region 11 tournament championship game March 8 at the home of the highest seeded team remaining in the tournament. KCC, seeded second and ranked fourth nationally, and sixth-seeded Ellsworth Community College (ECC) make up the other half of the bracket and will play their semifinal game tonight in Cedar Rapids.
