The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Jaden Jefferson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 10-16.
Jefferson, a freshman from Forney, Texas, is being honored for the first time this season and he is one of five members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored this season. Other honorees include sophomore Trevian Carson of Des Moines, sophomore Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City, freshman Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids and freshman Dylan Omweno of Apple Valley, Minn.
Carson has been honored four times, the weeks of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, Jan. 20 to 26, Nov. 11 to 17 and Oct. 28 to Nov. 3. Fisher has been honored three times, the weeks of Feb. 3 to 9, Jan. 13 to 19 and Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. Austin was honored the week of Jan, 6 to 12 and Omweno was honored the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.
Jefferson scored 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists and a steal in leading the Bears to an 87-73 win over Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Jefferson got his 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field and going 5-of-8 at the free throw line. Four of his seven rebounds came from the offensive end of the court.
Jefferson's 21 points helped him to 44 points in the Bears' last two games. He had a season-high 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in a 104-67 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Feb. 8 at Iowa Falls.
Jefferson has scored 258 points and is averaging 11.7 points a game. He is shooting 49 percent from the field, having made 94 of 191 field goal attempts. Jefferson is 23-of-70 from three-point range for 33 percent and is 47-of-63 from the free throw line for 75 percent.
Jefferson has 107 rebounds, including 75 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.9 rebounds a game. His season also includes 39 assists, 34 steals and 33 blocked shots.
