The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Da'Shon Fisher the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 3 to 9.
Fisher, a sophomore from Iowa City, is being honored for the third time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. He was also honored the week of Jan. 13 to 19 and the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1.
Trevian Carson, a sophomore from Des Moines, is a four-time honoree. He was honored the week of Jan. 27 to Feb. 2, the week of Jan. 20 to 26, the week of Nov. 11 to 17 and the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3. Austin Andrew, a freshman from Rock Rapids, was honored the week of Jan. 6 to 12 and Dylan Omweno, a freshman from Apple Valley, Minn., was honored the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.
Fisher shot 72 percent from the field and scored 48 points in helping the Bears to two wins during the week.
Fisher scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a 79-62 win over Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb. 5 inside the DMACC gymnasium and scored 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting in a 104-67 win over Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Feb. 8 at Iowa Falls.
Fisher's eight field goals against ICCC included two three-pointers from five attempts and he added two rebounds and a steal. He made one of two three-point attempts against ECC and came away with six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Fisher has scored 414 points and leads DMACC in scoring with a 15.9 average. He is shooting 59 percent from the field with 165 field goals from 280 attempts. Fisher has made 18 of 59 three-point attempts for 31 percent and is 66 of 92 from the free throw line for 72 percent.
Fisher has 116 rebounds, including 85 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.5 rebounds a game. His season also includes 37 assists, 43 steals and 15 blocked shots.
The DMACC men's basketball team, 24-2 overall and ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), faces Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Feb. 15 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears lead the ICCAC at 13-1 and are riding a 12-game winning streak. IWCC is 15-10 overall and 7-7 in conference play. The Reivers dropped a 94-92 decision to DMACC Jan. 15 at Council Bluffs.
