DMACC's Trevian Carson named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball
  • Carson had 21 points and 10 rebounds in an 87-67 win over CCC
  • Carson had 24 points and nine rebounds in a 92-68 win over WITCC
  • Carson is averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds a game

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Trevian Carson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the Week of January 27 to February 2.

 

Carson, a sophomore from Des Moines, is being honored for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season. He was also honored the week of Jan. 20 to 26, the week of Nov. 11 to 17 and the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.

 

Carson is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Sophomore Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City has been honored twice, the week of Jan. 13 to 19 and the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1. Freshman Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids was honored the week of Jan. 6 to 12 and freshman Dylan Omweno of Apple Valley, Minn., was honored for the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.

 

Carson helped the Bears to wins over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) and Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) during the week. He had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in an 87-67 win over CCC Jan. 28 at Columbus, Neb., and came away with 24 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots in a 92-68 win over WITCC Jan. 30 at Sioux City.

 

Carson has scored 397 points and leads the Bears in scoring with a 15.8 average. He is shooting 60 percent from the field with 148 field goals from 247 attempts. Carson is 26-of-72 from three-point range for 36 percent and has made 57 of 71 free throw attempts for 80 percent.

 

Carson also leads DMACC in rebounding with 188 rebounds, averaging 7.8 rebounds a game. His total rebounds include 141 defensive rebounds. Carson's season also includes 88 assists, 50 steals and 33 blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), faces Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) tonight inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are 22-2 overall and lead the ICCAC with an 11-1 record. ICCC is 12-10 and 6-7. The Tritons' losses include a 70-57 decision to DMACC Dec. 18 at Fort Dodge.
