The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Trevian Carson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of January 20 to 26.
Carson, a sophomore from Des Moines, is being honored for the third time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. He was also honored the week of Nov. 11 to 17 and the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.
DMACC sophomore Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City and freshmen Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids and Dylan Omweno of Apple Valley, Minn., have also earned the honor. Fisher has been honored twice, the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1 and the week of Jan. 13 to 19. Austin was honored the week of Jan. 6 to 12 and Omweno was honored the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5.
Carson scored 44 points and came away with 18 rebounds in leading the Bears to wins over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) and Southwestern Community College (SWCC) during the week. He scored 23 points with 14 rebounds, three assists and two steals in an 88-65 win over NECC Jan. 22 at Norfolk, Neb., and came away with 21 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in an 81-65 win over SWCC Jan. 25 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
Carson has scored 355 points this season and leads DMACC in scoring with a 15.4 average. He is shooting 60 percent from the field with 139 field goals from 233 attempts. He has made 26 of 68 three-point attempts for 38 percent and is 51-of-65 from the free throw line for 79 percent.
Carson also leads DMACC in rebounding with 177 rebounds and a 7.7 average. Carson's 177 rebounds include 132 defensive rebounds. His season also includes 85 assists, 51 steals and 30 blocked shots.
The DMACC men's basketball team, 21-2 overall and 10-1 in the ICCAC, faces Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) tonight at Sioux City. The Comets are 5-16 overall and 2-8 in the ICCAC. Their losses include a 105-68 setback to DMACC Dec. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
