The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Da'Shon Fisher the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of January 13 to 19.
Fisher, a sophomore from Iowa City, is being honored by the conference for the second time this season and he is one of four members of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Fisher was also honored the week of Nov. 25 to Dec. 1.
Andrew Austin, a freshman from Rock Rapids, earned the award the week of Jan. 6 to 12 and Dylan Omweno, a freshman from Apple Valley, Minn., was honored the time period of Dec. 17 to Jan. 5. Trevian Carson, a sophomore from Des Moines, has been honored twice, the week of Nov. 11 to 17 and the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.
Fisher scored 39 points and came away with 19 rebounds in helping the Bears, ranked sixth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), to two wins during the week. He scored 21 points with nine rebounds, a steal and two assists in a 94-92 win over No. 24 Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 15 at Council Bluffs and came away with a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 94-81 win over ninth-ranked Ellsworth Community College (ECC) Jan. 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Fisher also had three steals and a win in the game.
Fisher has scored 308 points and leads DMACC in scoring with a 15.4 average. He is shooting 59 percent from the field, having made 123 of 209 field goal attempts. Fisher is shooting 34 percent from three-point range with 14 field goals in 41 attempts and is 48-of-66 from the free throw line for 73 percent.
Fisher has 91 rebounds, including 67 defensive rebounds, and is averaging 4.5 rebounds a game. His season also includes 27 assists, 29 steals and 11 blocked shots.
The DMACC men's basketball team, 18-2 overall and 8-1 in the ICCAC, faces Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight in Norfolk, Neb. The Hawks are 3-13 overall and 0-9 in the ICCAC. Their losses include a 111-78 setback to DMACC Dec. 4 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
