DMACC men's basketball team tops MCC 77-54 to avenge its only loss of the season

 

Sophomore Jamal Ambrose of Apple Valley, Minn., recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 77-54 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) December 7 at Marshalltown.

 

Sophomores Trevian Carson of Des Moines and Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City scored 14 and 13 points respectively and freshmen Andrew Austin of Rock Valley and Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., had 11 points apiece as the Bears avenged their only loss of the season with the win.

 

MCC handed DMACC its only loss Nov. 19 when the Tigers came away with an 85-67 win inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC, ranked sixth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 11-1 with its fifth consecutive victory.

 

The Bears shot 37 percent, making 25 of 69 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-19 from three-point range and 20-of-26 from the free throw line. DMACC had a 34-26 advantage at halftime and outscored MCC 43-28 in the second half.

 

MCC shot 39 percent, hitting 22 of 56 field goal attempts. The Tigers were 5-of-22 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

 

Ambrose's 11 rebounds and nine from Carson lifted DMACC to a 41-36 advantage on the boards. Smith topped the Bears in assists and Smith, Carson, Jaden Jefferson had 3 steals apiece.
