DMACC men's basketball team gets 111-78 win over NECC

 

Sophomore Trevian Carson of Des Moines and freshman Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., scored 20 points apiece to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 111-78 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) December 4 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

DMACC improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their fourth consecutive win.

The Bears made 21 of 33 field goal attempts in the first half for 64 percent shooting and that led to a 57-31 lead at intermission. DMACC cooled off just a bit in the second half, making 18 of 36 field goal attempts, but kept the Hawks at bay and led by as many as 37 points with less than two minutes to play.

Sophomore Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City and freshman Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids joined Carson and Smith in double figures with 12 points apiece.

DMACC, ranked sixth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), ended up shooting 57 percent in the win, connecting on 39 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 12-of-29 from three-point range and 21-of-31 from the free throw line.

Carson pulled down nine rebounds to lead DMACC to a 45-34 advantage on the boards. Austin and sophomore Jamal Ambrose of Apple Valley, Minn., had six rebounds apiece and freshman Jaden Jefferson of Forney, Texas, added five. Smith dished out a team-high eight assists and freshman Jalen Hayes of Milwaukee, Wis., led DMACC in steals with three.
