Freshman Dylan Omweno of Apple Valley, Minn., scored a game-high 28 points to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 105-74 win over Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) November 25 at Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
Freshman Andrew Austin of Rock Rapids recorded a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Bears, ranked sixth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 7-1 for the season.
Sophomores Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City, freshman Rylan Smith of Lincoln, Neb., and sophomore Trevian Carson of Des Moines also reached double figures with 17, 12 and 10 points respectively.
Omweno got his 28 points from nine field goals in 14 attempts. He was 8-of-13 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
DMACC led throughout the game, including a 55-41 advantage at halftime, and the Bears were up by as many as 32 points in the second half.
DMACC shot 52 percent, hitting 40 of 77 field goal attempts. The Bears were 13-of-33 from three-point range and 12-of-16 from the free throw line.
Austin's 12 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 48-30 advantage on the boards. The Bears had 16 offensive rebounds leading to 22 second-chance points. Carson led DMACC in assists with six and Smith and sophomore Demerius Shakur of Milwaukee, Wis. had five assists apiece. Carson also led the way in steals with four.
The DMACC men's basketball team will open Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play Nov. 30 when the Bears face Southwestern Community College (SWCC) at Creston. SWCC is 3-4 this season.
