DMACC's Trevian Carson named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball

  • Carson averaged 13.5 points, 11 rebounds and 6.5 assists during the week
  • Carson shot 77 percent from the field, hitting 10 of 13 field goal attempts
  • Carson is averaging 14.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Trevian Carson the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of November 11 to 17.

 

Carson, a sophomore from Des Moines, is being honored for the second time this season. He also earned the award the week of Oct. 28 to Nov. 3 and he is the only member of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the ICCAC thus far in the 2024-25 season.

 

Carson averaged 13.5 points, 11 rebounds and 6.5 assists a game in helping the Bears to two wins during the week. He had 10 points, nine rebounds and six assists in a 106-62 win over the Grand View University Junior Varsity (GVUJV) on Nov. 15 and came away with 17 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in an 89-77 win over Black Hawk-Moline Community College (BHMCC) on Nov. 16.

 

Carson shot 77 percent from the field in the two games. He was 5-of-6 from the field in the win over GVUJV and made five of seven field goal attempts in the win over BHMCC. Carson missed his only three-point attempt and was 0-for-1 from the free throw line in the GVUJV game and hit one of two three-pointers and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line in the BHMCC game.

 

Carson is averaging 14.3 points, 9.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists a game for DMACC. He has scored 86 points in six games, hitting 34 of 52 field goal attempts for 65.4 percent. He is 5-of-9 from three-point range for 55.6 percent and is 13-of-15 from the free throw line for 86.7 percent.

 

Carson has 55 rebounds, including 45 defensive rebounds, and 28 assists in the six games. His season also includes 14 steals and nine blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked second in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is idle until Nov. 25 when the Bears will face Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) at Inver Hills, Minn. DMACC, which opened the season with six consecutive victories, suffered its first loss Nov. 19 when the Bears dropped an 85-67 decision to Marshalltown Community College (MCC) inside the DMACC gymnasium. MCC is an NJCAA Division I program.
