Balanced scoring lifts DMACC men's basketball past CCC

 

The DMACC men's basketball team got another balanced scoring effort in an 87-69 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC), January 18 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Trey Lewis of Johnston had 14 points, freshman Trevian Carson of Des Moines scored 12 and sophomores Angelo Winkel of Algona and James Glenn of Altoona and freshman Omar Elchazli of Katy, Texas, had 11 points apiece as the Bears ran their overall record to 16-2.

 

DMACC, ranked sixth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), never trailed. The Bears had a 20-7 lead with the game five minutes old and settled for a 50-30 advantage at halftime. CCC never got closer than 14 points and trailed by as many as 26 points in the second half.

 

The Bears shot 43 percent from the field, hitting 32 of 74 field goal attempts. They were 11-of-29 from three-point range and 12-of-14 from the free throw line.

 

Winkel and sophomore Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., had eight rebounds apiece and Carson came away with seven as DMACC had a 46-37 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., had a team-high four assists and Carson and Lewis finished with three apiece. Freshman Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City, Lewis and Thomas had two steals apiece.

 

DMACC, 6-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC), is home to Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) on Jan. 20. Game time is 3 p.m. The Reivers are 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the ICCAC.
