Balanced scoring lifts DMACC men's basketball team past SWCC, 82-64
  • Sophomores Elijah Thomas and Victor Desmond lead DMACC with 15 points apiece

  • Bears put game out of reach in the second half

 

Sophomores Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., and Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., scored 15 points apiece to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to an 82-64 win over Southwestern Community College (SWCC) January 10 at Creston.

 

Six DMACC players scored between 11 and 15 points in the win as the Bears ran their record to 15-2 overall and 6-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Sophomore Trey Lewis of Johnston tallied 12 points, sophomore James Glenn of Altoona and freshman Trevian Carson of Des Moines had 11 points apiece and sophomore Angelo Winkel of Algona   came away with 10 points.

 

DMACC trailed 38-35 at halftime before putting the game away in the second half when the Bears outscored the Spartans 47-26.

 

DMACC shot 53 percent from the field, hitting 30 of 57 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-21 from three-point range and 15-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

Lewis, Glenn and freshman Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City pulled down five rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 31-26 advantage on the boards. Desmond and Winkel had four rebounds each and Thomas finished with three. Desmond topped DMACC in assists with five and Lewis and freshman Demerius Shakur of Milwaukee, Wis., had three apiece. Carson led the way in steals with three.
