Sophomore Angelo Winkel of Algona collected another double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds as the DMACC men's basketball team defeated Iowa Central Community College (ICCC), 90-76, December 13 at Fort Dodge.

Sophomores Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., and Trey Lewis of Johnston tallied 13, 12 and 11 points respectively as the Bears improved to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their sixth consecutive victory.

Winkel's 29 points came from 14 field goals in 15 attempts and he made one of two free throw attempts. Seven of his 11 rebounds came on the defensive end of the floor.

DMACC, ranked fourth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led by as many as seven points early in the game before ICCC clawed back to take a pair of leads at 22-21 and 28-26 midway through the first half. A 14-2 run put the Bears up 40-30 and they settled for 51-36 advantage at halftime. ICCC never got closer than 10 points in the second half.

DMACC shot 49 percent, hitting 32 of 65 field goal attempts. The Bears were 5-of-19 from three-point range and 21-of-29 from the free throw line.

Winkel's 11 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 45-29 advantage on the boards. Freshman Trevian Carson of Des Moines had eight rebounds and Desmond and Thomas collected six apiece. Desmond dished out a team-high two assists and Thomas had a pair of steals.

The DMACC men's basketball team is idle until Jan. 3 when the Bears will be home to Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC). The Lakers, ranked eighth in the NJCAA Division II poll, are 10-3 overall and 2-1 in the ICCAC.
