DMACC men's basketball team tops Western Iowa Tech for fourth straight win

 

Sophomore Angelo Winkel of Algona scored 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 97-56 win over Western Iowa Tech (WIT) December 6 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Sophomore Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., and freshman Demerius Shakur of Milwaukee, Wis., tallied 21 and 14 points respectively as the Bears improved to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC, ranked fourth in the Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), opened up a 52-22 advantage at halftime and outscored the Comets 45-34 in the second half to post their fourth consecutive victory.

 

The Bears shot 49 percent, hitting 37 of 76 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-29 from three-point range and 13-of-23 from the free throw line.

 

Sophomore Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., pulled down 12 rebounds and sophomore Trey Lewis of Johnston collected nine as DMACC came away with a 56-42 advantage on the boards. Freshman Trevian Carson of Des Moines joined Winkel with seven rebounds and Shakur finished with six. Desmond and Lewis dished out six and five assists respectively and freshman Da'Shon Fisher of Iowa City topped the Bears in steals with four. Fisher and Carson had four blocked shots apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Dec. 9 inside the DMACC gymnasium. Game time is 3 p.m. KCC is 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC. The Eagles are ranked 10th in the NJCAA Division II poll.
