DMACC men's basketball team drops 82-80 decision to ICCC

The DMACC men's basketball team fell to 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following an 82-80 loss to Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) February 4 at Fort Dodge.

 

Freshman Kwat Abdelkarim of Lincoln, Neb., led the Bears with 18 points and freshmen Angelo Winkel of Algona and Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., added 13 and 11 points respectively.

 

ICCC, which avenged a 103-70 loss to DMACC Jan. 11 inside the DMACC gymnasium, overcame a 39-33 halftime deficit to get the win.

 

DMACC led by as many as nine points early in the second half before a 13-5 run got ICCC a 55-55 time. The two teams were never separated by more than five points the rest of the half and the Tritons got the win behind a 7-0 run in the final minutes.

 

The Bears shot 49 percent in the loss, making 30 of 61 field goal attempts. They were 7-of-22 from three-point range and 13-of-21 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 48-32 advantage in rebounding with freshman Victor Desmond of Onalaksa, Wis., leading the way with 12 rebounds. Winkel and freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., had five rebounds apiece. Sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., topped the Bears in assists with nine and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Saiveon Williams of Chicago, Ill., led DMACC in steals with two.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) Feb. 8 at Columbus, Neb. DMACC was an 89-58 winner over the Raiders when the two teams squared off Jan. 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
