Balanced scoring lifts DMACC men's basketball team to 91-64 win over NECC

Freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., led six players in double figures with 15 points as the DMACC men's basketball team came away with a 91-64 win over Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) Feb. 2 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Saiveon Williams of Chicago, Ill., had 12 points apiece, freshmen Jaron Crews of Ankeny and Kwat Abdelkarim of Lincoln, Neb., each scored 11 points and freshman Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., finished with 10 as the Bears, ranked 12th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), improved to 18-5 overall and 7-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with their third straight win.

 

The game was tied at 23 with 8 minutes, 5 seconds to play in the first half before a 14-3 run put the Bears in control at 37-26 with 2:11 left in the half. DMACC had a 44-32 lead at halftime.

 

The Bears never led by less than 10 points in the second half and pushed their advantage to as much as 35 points late in the game.

 

DMACC shot 57 percent, making 35 of 62 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-22 from three-point range and 12-of-19 from the free throw line.

 

Williams had eight rebounds and Desmond finished with seven as DMACC came away with a 41-29 advantage in rebounding. Abdelkarim led the Bears in assists with six and sophomore Greg Brown added five.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) Feb. 4 at Fort Dodge. ICCC is 11-11 overall and 4-6 in the ICCAC.
