McGee's 29 points lead DMACC men's basketball team past Central (Neb.), 89-58

Freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., scored 29 points to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to an 89-53 win over Central (Neb.) Community College (CCC) January 14 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

McGee, who missed his season high by one point, was nearly perfect from the field, hitting 12 of 13 field goal attempts. He was 2-of-2 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

 

Freshmen Angelo Winkel of Algona and Jaron Crews of Ankeny also reached double figures with 17 and 11 points respectively. Winkel recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 12 rebounds.

 

DMACC, which never trailed in the game, led by as many as 26 points in the first half, including 56-30 at halftime, and coasted to the victory. The Bears, ranked 13th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), led by as many as 33 points in the second half.

 

DMACC shot 57 percent in the win, making 39 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 7-of-16 from three-point range and 4-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

Freshman Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., joined Winkel with 12 rebounds as DMACC came away with a 47-38 advantage on the boards. Sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., dished out a team-high four assists and Desmond and McGee had three apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) Jan. 17 at Council Bluffs. The Bears are 4-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). IWCC is 8-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
