Iowa Lakes hands DMACC men's basketball team a 96-85 loss

Three players scored 19 or more points as the Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) Lakers handed the DMACC men's basketball team a 96-85 setback December 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Isiah Williams scored a game-high 28 points and Creighton Morisch and Anthony Holden added 22 and 19 points respectively as ILCC sent the Bears to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). All three of the Bears losses have come on their home court.

 

DMACC, led by freshman Jaron Crews of Ankeny with 22 points and six assists, had only one lead, 2-0, with the game less than a minute old. ILCC led by as many as 10 points four minutes into the first half and was ahead by as many as 13 points before settling for a 49-44 advantage at halftime. DMACC cut the Lakers lead to a point twice late in the half. The Bears got within two at 56-54 four minutes into the second half but a 7-0 run put the Lakers ahead 63-54 and DMACC got closer than five points the rest of the way.

 

Freshmen Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., and Angelo Winkel of Algona joined Crews in double figures with 16 and 15 points respectively.

 

DMACC, ranked eighth in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 44 percent, making 30 of 69 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-30 from three-point range and 16-of-20 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC had a 40-37 advantage on the boards with McGee and freshman Elijah Thomas of Surprise, Ariz., hauling down six rebounds apiece to lead the Bears. Sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jimarius Sneed of Chicago, Ill., came away with five apiece. Brown added three assists to go with nine points and CoSO Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., blocked two shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Kirkwood Community College (KCC) Dec. 17 at Cedar Rapids. The Eagles are 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the ICCAC. They are ranked sixth in the NJCAA Division II poll.
