DMACC's Angelo Winkel named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball
  • Winkel averaged 14 points and nine rebounds in helping the Bears to three wins during the week
  • Winkel recorded double-doubles in two of the three games
  • Winkel is averaging 14 points and 7.7 rebounds a game this season

 

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Angelo Winkel the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of November 28 to December 4.

 

Winkel is the first member of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season.

 

Winkel averaged 14 points and seven rebounds a game in helping the Bears to three wins during the week. He scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a 111-55 win over the William Penn University Junior Varsity (WPUJV) on Nov. 28 and tallied 14 points with seven rebounds in an 83-61 win over Marshalltown Community College (MCC) on Nov. 30. Winkel capped the week with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Bears defeated North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), 92-69, on Dec. 3.

 

Winkel has scored 168 points this season. He is averaging 14 points and 7.7 rebounds a game and ranks third in the ICCAC in rebounding. Winkel is shooting 56 percent from the field with 65 field goals in 116 attempts. He is 4-of-9 from three-point range for 44 percent and is 34-of-50 from the free throw line for 68 percent.

 

Winkel leads the Bears in rebounding with 92 rebounds, including 61 defensive rebounds. His season also includes nine assists, eight blocked shots and five steals.

The DMACC men's basketball team, ranked eighth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), is 10-2 overall and1-0 in the ICCAC. The Bears will face Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC) tonight in Norfolk, Neb. NECC is 5-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference play.
