DMACC men's basketball team suffers 79-74 loss

The DMACC men's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season when Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) handed the Bears a 79-74 loss November 22 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

DMACC, ranked eighth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 48 percent in opening up a  37-31 lead at halftime, but the Bears cooled off to 39 percent in the second half and were outscored 48-37 to fall to 7-2 for the season. The loss was their second in the past three games. With the win, KCKCC avenged an 86-77 loss to DMACC Nov. 1 at Kansas City.

 

Freshmen Jaron Crews of Ankeny and Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., scored 19 points apiece as the Bears finished the game with a 43 percent shooting percentage, connecting on 23 of 53 field goal attempts. They were 10-of-25 from three-point range and 18-of-28 from the free throw line.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jimarius Sneed of Chicago, Ill., and freshman Angelo Winkel of Algona scored nine points apiece for DMACC and sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., and freshman Kwat Abdelkarim of Lincoln, Neb., scored eight points apiece.

 

DMACC came away with a 38-35 advantage in rebounding with Sneed's seven rebounds leading the Bears. Crews and Abdelkarim had five rebounds apiece. Crews topped the Bears in assists with four and CoSO Jean Francois of Coral Springs had a pair of blocked shots.28.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will host the William Penn University junior varsity (WPUJV) on Nov. Game time is 7:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
