DMACC men's basketball team tops Bryant-Stratton, 83-70

The DMACC men's basketball team rebounded for its first loss of the season with an 83-70 win over Bryant-Stratton College (BSC) November 21 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The win was the Bears' seventh of the season against one loss and comes on the heels of an 83-75 loss to John Wood Community College (JWCC) on Nov. 19. DMACC opened the season with six consecutive wins.

 

The DMACC-BSC matchup featured a pair of ranked teams with DMACC ranked eighth and BSC ranked 17th in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

 

Freshman Cael McGee of Stoughton, Wis., led four DMACC players in double figures with 24 points. Freshman Angelo Winkel of Algona picked up his second double-double of the season with 19 points and ten rebounds and freshmen Kwat Abdelkarim of Lincoln, Neb., and Victor Desmond of Onalaska, Wis., contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.

 

DMACC, which led 41-32 at halftime, shot 53 percent in the win with 29 field goals from 55 attempts. The Bears were 3-of-12 from three-point range and made 22 of 29 free throws.

 

Winkel's 10 rebounds lifted DMACC to a 46-32 advantage in rebounding. Abdelkarim had eight rebounds and sophomore Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., added six. Brown led the Bears in assists with four and Abdelkarim and Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jimarius Sneed of Chicago, Ill., had two steals apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will be home to Kansas City (Kan.) Community College (KCKCC) today. Game time is 6 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears opened the season against KCKCC on Nov. 1 at Kansas City, Kan., and came away with an 86-77 win.
