DMACC's Michael Hartford named ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball

The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) has named DMACC's Michael Hartford the ICCAC Athlete of the Week for Division II Men's Basketball for the week of February 14 to 20.

 

Hartford, a sophomore from McKinney, Texas, is the fourth member of the DMACC men's basketball team to be honored by the conference this season. Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison was honored for the weeks of Feb. 7 to 13, Jan. 10 to 16 and Dec. 13 to 19; Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., was honored for the weeks of Jan. 17 to 23 and Nov. 15 to 21; and CoSO Noah Parcher was honored the week of Nov. 1 to 7.

 

Hartford helped the Bears to victories against North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), Northeast (Neb.) Community College (NECC), Southwestern Community College (SWCC) and Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) during the week. DMACC, ranked eighth in this week's Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), stretched its winning streak to 12 games and improved to 22-6 overall with the four victories.

 

Hartford had 12 points, including a game-winning three-pointer, two rebounds, four assists and a steal in a 73-71 win over NIACC on Feb. 14. He scored six points, grabbed one rebound, dished out three assists and had three steals in a 78-54 win over NECC on Feb. 16 and came away with 14 points, two rebounds and two assists in a 100-65 win over SWCC on Feb. 19. Hartford closed out the week with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in a 76-75 win over 14th-ranked ILCC.

 

Hartford is averaging 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists a game for DMACC, which leads the ICCAC at 13-2. He is shooting 37 percent from the field, having made 55 of 150 field goal attempts. Hartford is 35-of-99 from three-point range for 35 percent and has made 39 of 48 free throw attempts for 81 percent. Hartford's season also includes 63 rebounds, including 55 defensive rebounds, 41 assists, 21 steals and eight blocked shots.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team closes out the regular season against No. 13 Kirkwood Community College (KCC) today. Game time is 7:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Eagles are 20-7 overall and 12-3 in the ICCAC. A DMACC victory will give the Bears their third consecutive ICCAC regular-season championship.
