Graves scores 31 points to lead DMACC men's basketball team past NIACC, 115-79

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., scored 31 points to lead the DMACC men's basketball team to a 115-79 win over North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) February 10 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The Bears shot 58 percent from the field and made 19 of 35 three-point attempts in improving to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). They pushed their winning streak to eight consecutive games and have won 10 of their last 11 games.

 

Graves leads the ICCAC in scoring at 18 points a game and is also the conference's top three-point shooter at 51.7 percent. His 31 points came from 11-of-16 shooting, including 8-of-12 from three-point range. He was 1-of-2 from the free throw line.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Preston Thomas of Princeton, Mo., came off the bench to score 20 points for DMACC and freshman Hakeem Odunsi of Iowa City scored 11 points. Thomas made all seven of his field goal attempts, including all six of his shots from beyond the arc.

 

DMACC trailed 4-0 46 seconds into the game and then used a 26-2 run to open up a 26-6 lead with just less than 13 minutes to play in the first half. The Bears led 61-31 at halftime. They had a 52-point advantage early in the second half and never led by less than 34 points.

 

DMACC's 58 percent shooting came from 46 field goals in 80 attempts. The Bears were 26-of-43 in the first half and 20-of-37 in the second half. They made 11 of 20 three-point attempts in the opening half and went 8-of-15 in the second half. DMACC was just 4-of-11 from the free throw line.

 

Thomas and CoFR Goanar Biliew of Denison pulled down seven rebounds apiece to lead the Bears to a 49-46 advantage on the boards. Odunsi had six rebounds and Graves came away with five. CoSO Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., led DMACC in assists with six and Graves topped the Bears in steals with five.

 

DMACC will face NIACC again on Feb. 14 at Mason City. The Trojans are 18-8 overall and 6-6 in the ICCAC.
