DMACC men's basketball team drops 71-61 decision to ECC

The DMACC men's basketball team fell to 10-6 overall and 2-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) following a 71-61 loss to Ellsworth Community College (ECC) January 5 at Iowa Falls.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., led the Bears with 21 points and CoSO Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., added 19 points.

 

ECC opened the game with a 17-0 run and DMACC never recovered. The Bears, who never led, trailed by as many as 21 points in the first half and were down 38-27 at halftime. DMACC trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half and closed to within six points twice in the final 46 seconds by got no closer.

 

The Bears, ranked 17th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), shot 36 percent in the loss, hitting 17 of 47 field goal attempts after making just six of 20 attempts in the first half. DMACC was 6-of-22 from three-point range and 21-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison pulled down eight rebounds to go with nine points as ECC came away with a 37-35 advantage on the boards. Graves and CoFR Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., had five rebounds apiece and Parcher topped the Bears in assists with four. He also led DMACC in steals with four.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Jan. 8 at Creston. SWCC is 6-8 overall and 1-2 in the ICCAC.
