DMACC men's basketball team upsets 11th-ranked Iowa Lakes

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., led five players in double figures with 16 points as the DMACC men's basketball team recorded an 84-72 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) in the 2021 Arena Invitational December 18 at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City.

 

Sophomore Mike Hartford of McKinney, Texas and freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., scored 13 points apiece, Covid-19 freshman Goanar Biliew of Denison had 12 points and CoSO Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., came away with 11 points as the Bears improved to 10-5 for the season and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

Graves was named to the all-tournament team announced at the conclusion of the game.

 

ILCC came into the game ranked 11th in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll and DMACC came in as the No. 20 team. The Bears led 10-9 with just more than 15 minutes to play in the first half and used a 19-4 run over the next five minutes to open up a 29-13 lead. DMACC led 48-41 at halftime and pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 19 points.

 

The Bears shot 45 percent in the win, hitting 27 of 60 field goal attempts. They were 11-of-26 from three-point range and 19-of-22 from the free throw line.

 

Graves and Biliew had eight rebounds apiece as ILCC came away with a 39-37 advantage on the boards. Parcher dished out a team-high six assists and also led the Bears in steals with three.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team is idle until Jan. 5 when the Bears will play Ellsworth Community College (ECC) at Iowa Falls. ECC is 11-5 overall and 2-2 in the ICCAC.
