DMACC men's basketball team falls to KCKCC for second time this season, 75-64

Four players scored in double figures as the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) handed the DMACC men's basketball team a 75-64 loss December 11 at Kansas City, Kan.

 

The win was the Blue Devils' second of the season against the Bears. They also came away with a 75-73 overtime decision when the two teams played Nov. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

The loss dropped DMACC, the No. 9 team in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, to 8-5 for the season.

 

Covid-19 sophomore (CoSO) Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., led the Bears with 20 points and freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., reached double figures with 10 points.

 

DMACC squandered a double-digit lead in the loss. The Bears had a 37-27 advantage with six minutes, 29 seconds remaining in the first half and saw KCKCC battle back to a 41-41 tie at halftime. KCKCC took a 47-46 lead early in the second half and led the rest of the game. DMACC, which trailed by as many as nine points early in the half, closed to within one at 55-54 with 11:23 to play and trailed 60-59 with 5:09 left. KCKCC responded with nine unanswered points for a 69-50 lead with 2:31 remaining.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent in the loss, making 24 of 56 field goal attempts. The Bears were 10-of-27 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.

 

Graves, CoSO Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., sophomore Mike Hartford of McKinney, Texas and freshman Udemadu Allen of Lagos, Nigeria, had five rebounds apiece as DMACC came away with a 35-32 advantage on the boards. Graves led DMACC in assists with five.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will play Labette Community College (LCC) Dec. 14. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside the DMACC gymnasium.
