DMACC men's basketball team suffers overtime loss to KCC

Kirkwood Community College (KCC) got a pair of free throws from Blake Brinkmeyer with six seconds left in overtime and Dre Anderson added two more a few seconds later as the Eagles defeated the DMACC men's basketball team 76-73 December 8 at Cedar Rapids.

 

The Bears, ranked ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll, lost after leading by as many as 15 points, 57-42, with just more than six minutes to play. KCC, ranked 11th in NJCAA Division II, used a 14-0 run to close to within one at 57-56 and went ahead 62-60 with 46 seconds left. Covid-19 sophomore Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wis., made a layup with 15 seconds left to tie the game and it went into overtime after Anderson missed a three-point attempt in the final seconds

 

The two teams were tied at 24 at halftime and DMACC's 15-point lead in the second half was its largest of the game. The Bears led by four points in the overtime period and trailed by as many as three points. DMACC is now 2-2 in overtime games this season.

 

Parcher led DMACC with 19 points. CoSO Jadan Graves of Syracuse, N.Y., scored 16 points, freshman Greg Brown of Omaha, Neb., had 12 points and Covid-19 freshman (CoFR) Goanar Biliew of Denison finished with 10 points.

 

DMACC shot 43 percent, hitting 26 of 61 field goal attempts. The Bears were 9-of-25 from three-point range and 12-of-14 from the free throw line.

KCC came away with a 37-36 advantage on the boards with Graves' six rebounds leading the Bears. Biliew, CoFR Jimarius Sneed of Chicago, Ill., and CoFR Jean Francois of Coral Springs, Fla., had five rebounds apiece. Parcher dished out six assists and he and Brown led DMACC in steals with four apiece.

 

The DMACC men's basketball team will face Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Dec. 11 at Kansas City, Kan. KCKCC came away with a 75-73 overtime win when the two teams played Nov. 16 inside the DMACC gymnasium.
